Founded in 2001, the American Society of Estate Liquidators® (ASEL) is a professional membership organization serving the estate liquidation industry.
ASEL supports professionals through education, business resources, and membership opportunities designed to encourage strong, ethical business practices. ASEL offers a range of courses, publications, forms, templates, and practical resources designed to support both new and established estate liquidators. ASEL also offers multiple levels of membership, including professional designations for experienced estate liquidators. All members agree to follow the ASEL Code of Ethics.
In addition to serving industry professionals, ASEL provides educational information for individuals and families navigating estate transitions and maintains a public directory to help consumers locate ASEL members in their area.
Through education, professional standards, resources, and connection, ASEL works to support estate liquidators across the nation and advance the industry.
Melanie Sohn is the owner and Director of the American Society of Estate Liquidators, where she leads the organization’s work in education, professional resources, membership, and industry standards.
Sohn’s connection to the industry began through her family’s Florida-based estate sale business, Full House Liquidation. She later moved into corporate engagement at Just Capital, where she worked closely with corporate responsibility teams at many of America’s largest publicly traded corporations, developing relationships, tools, and resources to help companies understand and improve their performance on various stakeholder and business issues.
She eventually returned to the estate industry and now serves as Vice President of Valuables Appraisal Service, a New Jersey-based personal property services firm. Her experience across industries and roles informs her approach to ASEL: helping estate liquidation professionals build strong, ethical businesses through practical education, access to resources, professional standards, and connection with one another.
Sohn became Director of ASEL in 2026 following the retirement of longtime Director Julie Hall. She is currently leading a broad modernization of ASEL’s membership experience and digital platform while continuing the organization’s longstanding goal to advance the estate liquidation industry.
